To one side of
the harbour lies the small town beach (shingle), which is suitable for
swimming. Other beaches include Kaputash about 10 minutes from Kalkan or
the fantastic beach at Patara with its 10miles of golden sand situated
in a National Park and is ideal for a day trip either by car or local
dolmus (small bus) which takes about 20-30 minutes.
The sea is crystal clear wherever you go and surrounded by mountains. |

Kalkan is surrounded by historic and ancient sites
from the Lycian period with their rock tombs and amphitheaters, a must
for anyone interested in ancient history.
Everyone should experience a day trip on one of the many gulets, which will take you off to the numerous coves and beaches along the coast, stopping frequently for a swim and you will experience a barbeque on board or on a secluded beach. |

The old part of the town with its numerous cobbled & narrow streets (all of which lead to the harbour) has all the amenities you could wish for in a Turkish holiday, a bank with cash point, post office, doctors, pharmacists, dentist (hopefully you will not need either) several bars in which to relax and watch the world go by whilst you have a quiet drink. In the shops you can purchase genuine Persian rugs made in the traditional way, pottery, jewellery and there are several boutiques all of which offer great value for money. Every Thursday the market arrives where you can purchase anything at very cheap prices. Everyone in Kalkan is very friendly and welcoming, it is the people that make the place what it is and they are very genuine when they welcome you into their shops/ restaurants & homes. |

Kas is about 30 minutes
away by car/taxi or dolmus and is a larger harbour town again with
numerous restaurants along the harbour edge, every time we go there we
find yet another cobbled street with small traditional shops and eating
places.
Fethiye approximately 1 hour away is a much larger town, but well worth the visit. |
